nah they wanna seem cool too so they go head and settle for Migos and Drake

i think migos and drake are dope so i've never settled or anything. hip hop is a huge tree and there are many branches. migos and drake have their lane while others occupy different branches. it's about being good at what you do

back in '94 i'd listen to jeru the sun rises in the east then turn around and pump 69 boyz album

i like diversity, at the end of the day it's all hip hop

don't blame the south

shyt died when prison industrial complex muthafukkas started investing into the music slowly killing conscious music and blindly promoting violence in music for obvious reasons

when cube left and dre dropped nikkaz 4 life album, which majority tracks had nothing but pure ignorance this is the direction where a lot of rappers went

Jeeszy,t.i.,Wayne,Ross are good for being SOUTHERN rappers but nowhere even close to guys like Jadakiss & Beanie Sigel. Let alone being named with top tier lyricists. OutKast and Chamillionaire are the only credible LYRICISTS from that era.

Face is a top tier lyricist and the equal or even superior of anyone you could name from the east. You naming chamillionaire as opposed to someone like Mr. Mike tells me you don't know all that much about Southern rap, and that's alright. But you shouldn't seek to disparage it.

Scarface wasn't dropping nothing in 06-08 unless you talking about the "my block" single, which was hard. The Midwest has more LYRICISTS than the entire south during that era. Lupe,Kanye,Common,Rhymefest,Royce Da 5'9, Eminem, Obie Trice, Twista, Bone Thugs

Yall just can't have an honest conversation about this shyt. Y'all know the south has contributed almost NOTHING to the lyrical advancement of hip hop since Outkast dropped out the game.

Ludacris, Outkast & Chamillionaire the only lyrical nikkas dropped something in the past 15 years that can even be compared to East coast & Midwest rappers.

You know what I'll do y'all a favor and throw Mystikal in there.:mjlol:

Lil Wayne & Jeezy are not LYRICISTS.

If we banned the south from hip hop the game would improve OVERNIGHT

you're talking about a 2 yr period when the man has been dropping music for over 30 years. nobody you named has the consistency and discography of that man. outkast was lyrical, but like i said before your naming chamillionaire as a top southern lyricist tells me what you know of real southern rap. you've probably never even heard any of South Circle or Mr. Mike's music, and since you've never heard them there's really no need to try to put you up on anyone else because you're biased. you just named three commercial acts. that's lazy and even a little dishonest because you're speaking authoritatively on something you don't know all that much about.

besides you can be a LYRICIST and still make weak ass music overall, which describes alotta east coast music. any if the South did disappear yall would still be up in NY biting other regions and imitating the west coast gangs. and getting cozy with jews, so nothing would change or improve. we would just have to look to the West for the real.

yall dropped the ball man. aint no other way around it. and to not take responsibility for that shows a lack on Manliness.

They didn't kill it but the did simplify that shyt. And wasn't even the entire south just nikkas from ATL like lil Jon, dem franchize boys, d4l etc.

But that music was a breath of fresh air compared to the repetitive gun rhymes that ny rappers were doing.

Exactly.

Can we really point the finger at the south for remedial rap when we had nikkas like Uncle Murda, Tru Life, Shea Davis and Maino running around.

Its not like NY was a bastion of superior upper echelon rap by the time the south was on the come up.

When purposely making radio music, crossing over and selling out, big labels killing the balance, and being fake became acceptable......this is what you get.

When was there balance in rap?
90's. Althight ironically, that's when people were calling some rappers sellouts or crossover acts.

You had underground cats that bubbled and became mainstream they had success and respect from most ppl (Biggie, Nas, Pac, Snoop, Wu, Onyx)

You had underground cats: Jeru, The Liks, 3-6 Mafia, Common, The Roots, UGK Tribe (close to mainstream)

Straight mainstream: Kris Kross, Fugees (artuably could be in first category)

Notice that u had ppl that earned their stripes from undergeound to mainstream and there's a good regional mix. They developed as an artist before you even heard an album from them so when u heard the album it had a higher chance of sounding polished and good after u already heard their raw ability through opening shows, features and singles.

Cole aan Kendrick also started underground and thas part of why they have staying power.

After the 90's the tales got tipped and the underground became more and more devalued.
