analytics is useful in each and every sport
in some sports, it less useful than in others, true, but that doesnt mean its not an important tool
my pet peeve is people equaling moneyball to analytical tool/method. its really not. moneyball is about applying the various analytical methods to get players who are undervalued according to these methods and let players who are overvalued go somewhere else. moneyball is about getting an edge on competition that doesnt use analytics. simple as that.
think stock trading in the 90s. imagine that you're the only guy out there with internet with all capabilities of 2010s at your disposal. you're getting a huge edge on competition because you have access to information and analysis they don't.
