Charles needs to get off the air, he is absolutely brutal these days
Breh, the Heat dominant off pure talent. The Heat were far ahead of many teams with depth they had in 4 straight seasons. Also, Bosh stretching the floor was both a good and bad thing that didn't serve the team too well when Miami went against teams with bigger front-court players. The Spurs exploit Miami's weakness in two straight finals. Mavs ate Miami up on the low post and on the boards in 2011 NBA finals. The team with the best talent with subtle coaching always win the championships.
while I do agree with your overall point, your last point is a nonsense. While I think charles took it to the extreme, I do agree that "analytics" gets way to much credit for good basketball decisions...
Like people look at Memphis trading Gay away as a good move that only happened because of "anlytics"
When in reality Memphis had an established big man in Z bo giving you 20 and 10, and up and coming point guard in conley who was needing more touches to get better, an up and coming big man in Gasol who was beginning to give you 20 and 10 whenever Z bo didn't...
So of course the logical thing to do is to get rid of a chucker who doesn't shoot it at a high percentage (Gay) to let those guys get more shots and grow more as players...
That not an "analytics" thing...that's a common sense basketball thing...
actually the Grizz were good before he got there. and he almost fukked it up when he tried to get them to play a fast pace offense early last year and the team lost alot of games early. then they went back to their grind it out low post game and were back as contenders. that cac had nothing to do with the grizz success.
what about it was dumb? what he said was true. analytics is just some shyt cacs who couldn't play made up so they could have a seat at the table. at the end of the day analytics don't win you championships. having the best players do just like it always been. miami ain't win cause of analytics. they won because they had 3 of the best players in the game. san antonio ain't win cause of analytics. they won cause they had the most talent 1-12 in the league. and so forth.
when's the last time the A's or some moneyball squad won a world series? its teams that got the most talent than win the chip. analytics is just some shyt for white nerds who could never play ball and want affiliation with sports.
Chuck is that you
I thought you were saying coaching didn't matter when it came to defense?
advanced stats are one piece of a big pie. you gotta use it nowadays because it is available, but it's not the only thing.
The Rockets have. They take bunch of 3's, score points in the paint, and shoot FTs. They take the fewest mid-range jumpers.
Some technique too. Really I think it's just a matter of the guy wanting to try to discredit what the heat were doing. I mean the guy is trying to say they have a roster full of good defenders. They have been bottom 5 all year in pretty much every major defensive category, and in spite of the fact that since 1996 (I'm going out on a limb and guessing the 96-98 bulls defended at a top ten level since I haven't seen the data) only one team won a title while not being a top ten defense. Seems to ignore the fact that Miami largely lost the finals last year due to arguably the worst defensive showing in finals history.

The move was criticized by many at the time because Gay was their leading scorer. That means it was not "common sense" like you suggested.
That and our coach doing maybe the single worst coaching job I have ever seen in a 7 game series, and given what he did in the 2011 finals, the 2012 ECF, what Scotty Brooks did in the 2012 finals, and what spo did in the 2013 ECF and 2013 finals, that's really saying something. Guy made 0 adjustments on either end of the floor all series long.If I had to call it I'd say thats exactly what it was.

They lost a lot of games early on because Marc Gasol hurt his knee in November, they went back to their low post game when he came back from injury. They supposed to play grind it out games when he's not there?![]()
" when last year the league was so shook of them beating the Oklahoma Chucking Thunder that they suspended Zbo...

argue with the WOAT@ This dishonest bullshyt.
