Analytics is extremely helpful for front offices, personnel evaluators, scouts, etc...

In regards to Chuck, Shaq, and other people who don't want to embrace their usefulness, it comes off like people who don't want to embrace math. Tbh, I look at Hollinger's equation and I would love to read an actual conference paper on how he determined the weight of each stat because I'm sure his model isn't flawless. It's probably some stats guy at MIT or Harvard trying to find a flaw or improve it in their spare time.

My issue is when it comes to debates between random internet nikkas when Player X is clearly better than Player Y and advanced stats are brought in to try and save Player Y and most of the time that doesn't work.

in this argument about basketball.
analytics don't speak the full story like you could use for baseball like money ball.
basketball is a complextion of the talent in the game sport.
you can't really use analytics wholeheartedly to win in basketball like baseball.
you can not assemble a bunch of middle of the road no talents in bball and use analytics to win in bball.
you could pull it in baseball, but not in bball.

Yep it's all about talent usually teams that win titles have all time great players.

A lot of these cats don't realize how different the playoffs are from the regular season..In the regular season you can get by without great players because teams aren't scouted to death like they are in the playoffs where every players strengths are taken away and you need great players who can take over

A team like the Hawks are much more built for the regular season then the playoffs

people confuse the meaning of analytics....it's not just crunching data and allowing the numbers dictate who you play...it's staying ahead of the curve and developing new methods to keep you ahead of your competition. The Spurs and the Pats do a ton of wacky shyt we don't know about.

No doubt, but the Spurs has one of the GOAT players\leaders(not just post players) That's the key ingredient for the Spurs...and even with that....

Phil is still like 4-1 against Pop...and I'm a huge POP stan, but at the end of the day...the right players>>>> than everything else

Talent is obviously the most important. But the Spurs get the edge from areas outside of talent that other organizations dont even know exist...The Spurs being good every year isn't just off of talent. They do everything right. The only thing that can really offset that is a talent as good as Lebron- who's obviously extremely unique.

And teams like the Mavs and now the Hawks seem to be catching up with what the Spurs do.

Oh yeah.. I agree with this.....The Spurs organization has been extremely well ran for over 25 years now....When they hired POP, it was the final piece to the puzzle...

The way that the Spurs scout talent alone lets you know that the coach, GM, and owner are on some synergistic shyt that most organizations can't replicate

Without Tim Duncan they aren't who they are. They had a top 10 player of all time who's unselfish and coachable that's invaluable

The nba is the most simple sport..you need an all time great player and an all star or two to win a title these analytical guys are over complicating a simple game

and fwiw, the core of the Knicks problems was they had too many cooks in the kitchen...and most of the cooks were idiots. I like Phil, but even bringing him on seems a step behind the 8 ball.

I don't disagree. But Duncan isnt a star anymore....i agree about the all stars but the analytics help you piece together spots 4-10 on your roster.

Duncan was great in the playoffs and they also had two other future hofers and a rising star

I know last year was different but in the playoffs your few best players>>depth

as a baseball fan, people making themselves look like idiots with respect to advanced stats is nothing new. charles sounds exactly like those old fools from Moneyball, and guess what? now every team in the league is playing moneyball.

Two way different sports..in baseball they'res so many ways to build a team to win in the nba history has shown all time great players win titles 99% of the time

Also you have a cap in the nba in baseball there is none some of the lower market teams are forced to operate differently and think out of the box

I'm talking about Charles' attitude about analytics being the same as the old fools' in baseball
