Whut Thee - classic. His most classic album, if that makes sense. Redman was THE man when this dropped. And Sermon's production was crazy.

Muddy Waters - classic. I've not heard anyone say it isn't :manny:. It's my personal choice of Red's albums, ended 1996 perfectly :wow:

Like some others Dare i'm on the fence about, but inclined to say its a touch below classic. I certainly think it's his most unappreciated album though, probably because its more gritty.

I voted for these 2 as classic

yep pretty much how I feel

I think DIAD is his best, but doesnt have classic qualities necessarily

Dare Iz A Darkside is the more spaced-out, "cosmic slop" Red...it doesn't bump like the two albums it's between.
Biggie had a point.

That and...the album is tight, but it doesn't have a landmark track on it to me.
The singles was aight, but it doesn't have any deep tracks on it that I think are recognizable to the average listener.
Personally, my favorite cuts are "Green Island" and "Slide & Rock On"...but as I said, if you walk up on a random person
at the wrecka stow and say "ayo - what's your favorite cuts of Dare Iz A Darkside?" I think they might look up in the
sky and say "Hmmm...what was on that again?"
Can't Wait is landmark Red to me, but I think you're right about landmark deep tracks. I kind of think that's true for Muddy Waters as well :ohhh:

if snoop dropped 3 doggystyle quality type albums but with the same subjects throughout i'd only give the classic status to one nah i mean?
Hard to see how he wouldn't have been the GOAT emcee based off that. Can you imagine Doggystyle 2 and 3 in 94/95? :ohhh:

I disagree about Muddy Waters. Whut is the album that gets the most recognition. It has the classic singles and its when Redman was at his peak of fame with the core hip hop community. Point blank, Redman was the man in 92. In late 96, he didn't come close to dominating like he did back then.

It really is similar to HOE. He went darker. He improved as a rapper. The singles didn't connect like they did with the first album. Stans will tell you it's better than the first album (I know Infamous isn't the first, but you get the point).
I agree with you with Whut being his most recognized album. He one Album of the Year in the Source basically as a rookie. To me Muddy Waters is his best and most complete album. Both he and Sermon were at the top of their games. That album basically set the blueprint for the rest of his career

every one of his 3 supposed classics brings the best of something to the table

first album - Redman ruled the rap world; super funky; battle rap type album
second album - distorted funk; extra-terrestrial feel; impeccable lyricism, charisma total package
third album - super polished; honing of all rap skills; best song writing

I still play Whut Thee Album. Loved the funk samples even way back then, thought that shyt was so dope. Songs that your parents listened to in the crib/car with some of your your favorite artists spittin over them shyts. Classics on top of classics.
A lot of people try to say that album is like a east coast answer to what was going on in the west at the time. I agree to an extent cuz the sequencing had a very similar feel. But it does a disservice to E Dub since he's been using funk samples since 88

He was the most consistent rapper of the 90s and I don't even think its close. Commercially he got better with each album till he finally went platinum with Docs Da Name. He also influenced a bunch of MCs. He was the perfect bridge between underground and commercial which had a clear division back than.

Something that's crazy about the Dare album is that he did more production on that album than any of his other ones which is crazy considering how high we was. A lot of people don't kno he came into the game as a DJ.

Whut actually predates the Chronic too...
I know you can argue G-Funk predates the Chronic...but still...
And you are 100% correct about the gawd Sermon.
Also, let's keep in mind that Red did a bulk of the production himself on those first two albums

Don't forget Ludacris. Those first few Luda albums sounded like southern versions of Muddy Waters.

Tbh the Chronic came out first tho. They both came out in 92 but Whut was toward the end of the year. If anything I think his albums were influenced by Death Certificate more than anything else imo
