One had TWO HOF QBs to work with (Aaron and Brett) along with a competent front office. He rode Aaron during his prime and got a ship after a few years as a mediocre OC. I knew who he was before he became the Packers HC because he coached the 49ers and he was horrible. He was NOT good at all before that either, BUT he was still given a HC job.

The other had two scouts and Mike Brown as an owner who's family still today cheaps their way through seasons. Marv has more years as an HC and an all time defense in his resume as a coordinator.

Don't pretend like the organizations don't matter when it comes to championships and playoffs. He's your former coach, which for some reason is making you defend this shytty hire, but all of the other things matter when it comes to the playoffs. Playoff success has always been a reflection of the organization.

He had A Rod all these years, but remember things turned around in Green Bay in his first year and they made it to their first conference finals in forever after years of stagnation under Mike Sherman and didn’t make the SB cause had too much fun out there in OT.

Marvin did a great job with the Bengals however he had teams that had the most talent in the AFC and couldn't win one game in the playoffs. Not all of it was his fault but he was there 16 years and couldn't get out of the wild card round. How much rope do you wanna give a guy?

This is the equivalent of promoting the most average guy in the office because he was salesman of the year back in 09. If he succeeds you as the owner looks good and if he fails you can fire him and blame it on his mediocrity. In other this a safe Cowboy move that does nothing to move the needle and keep the Cowboys teetering between 7-9 or 9-7 with a maybe a 10 win season or two sprinkled in. If you were going to do this, you may have well as kept Garrett.
