I think things are moving that way. I see Somalia, Somaliland and Puntland entering some type of confederation in the future with a Swiss or EU type of set-up. I think your people are tired of war.
Nah
We still fighting over dusty villages. The old crop of politicians/generals from the Barre era needs to die off.
If the oil wealth isn't fairly distributed and benefits the locals, Ethiopia will never rest
No matter who controls Ogaden.
This move proves to me more than anything that Abiy is not window dressing but a personification of an internal coup in Ethiopia. The OPDO really does run the show in EPRDF and Ethiopia now. There is no way a TPLF stooge would sign off on this. Unlike for TPLF, the Eritrea conflict holds little personal or territorial value for Oromos, so the negative repercussions of a a reapprochement far exceed the positives.
The drivers of the internal coup and the rapid reforms were political instability and economic malaise, including much reduced foreign investment. Abiy seems to be slowly reversing this, particularly with Oromos but there remains heavy instability in the hinterlands. If he is to truly save his own party and the country from further upheaval, he will need to seriously address it. Nonetheless, he is definitely the boldest leader the region has seen in a very long time and it’s an exciting time with new possibilities that were unimaginable weeks ago.
It could be that. But I’ve come to look at the TPLF as a very cunning group generally. To me, this situation benefits both them and Isaias as well. There was increasing pressure from the diaspora to get rid of Isaias while the political unrest threatened to bring wholesale change in government.
In a weird way, this could be a way for both sides to prolong their stay in power. The Ethiopian side of this of course is more intriguing, but I don’t think Abiy is going to bring the true fundamental change Ethiopians need because the people have already crowned him in their hearts anyway.
That means absolutely nothing when it comes to having “boarders”
Have you seen the way Mexicans treat other mestizos who illegally enter Mexico?
Or how Bahamanians treat Haitians?
Ethiopia has outfoxed Egypt. Sudan and Ethiopia have good relations now. Ethiopia and Eritrea have made peace. The government in Mogadishu and Ethiopia have mutual interests. Somaliland wants to be a port for Ethiopia's exports and imports. Djibouti is reaping tons of benefits from its trade relationship with Ethiopia. Is Egypt going to try and flip South Sudan?

They are cunning, but I cant buy the idea they are pulling strings in the background. TIt could be that. But I’ve come to look at the TPLF as a very cunning group generally. The thing is Eritreans are refugees in Ethiopia by politics only. Other than that they’re practically one of us from the split family ties to the commonalities in Culture. Only when things became hostile did both sides deport each other’s citizens. The political differences are just that strong though, especially after years of separation. It’s going to be really interesting when we start talking because there’s a lot that’s still not agreed upon.
Amazing that Ethiopia just turned itself into the primary allied powerhouse of East Africa with no shots fired. Egypt would be a fool to try and get at Ethiopia now![]()
