This move proves to me more than anything that Abiy is not window dressing but a personification of an internal coup in Ethiopia. The OPDO really does run the show in EPRDF and Ethiopia now. There is no way a TPLF stooge would sign off on this. Unlike for TPLF, the Eritrea conflict holds little personal or territorial value for Oromos, so the negative repercussions of a a reapprochement far exceed the positives.

The drivers of the internal coup and the rapid reforms were political instability and economic malaise, including much reduced foreign investment. Abiy seems to be slowly reversing this, particularly with Oromos but there remains heavy instability in the hinterlands. If he is to truly save his own party and the country from further upheaval, he will need to seriously address it. Nonetheless, he is definitely the boldest leader the region has seen in a very long time and it’s an exciting time with new possibilities that were unimaginable weeks ago.

He's bringing Ethiopia back from the brink. shyt was looking crazy out there for a minute. Nothing less than big changes and a PM independent of the TPLF would've sufficed in the eyes of the opposition

They tried window dressing shyt with Desalegn and it didn't work. If this guy was a continuation of the same old with an Oromo face then shyt would be bracking. Even now they're still not out of the woods yet..I think most ppl are waiting to see how independent he truly is

Good for them. I think the Eritreans have had enough of war tbh. I’m genuinely happy for them. I just wish these Ethiopians would give us our damn land back and instead unite with their tigrayan brothers.

But as much as I hate Ethiopia I’m still glad African countries are sticking it to the Arab countries up north.

Yeah right :mjlol:

:ehh:

Ethiopia has outfoxed Egypt. Sudan and Ethiopia have good relations now. Ethiopia and Eritrea have made peace. The government in Mogadishu and Ethiopia have mutual interests. Somaliland wants to be a port for Ethiopia's exports and imports. Djibouti is reaping tons of benefits from its trade relationship with Ethiopia. Is Egypt going to try and flip South Sudan?

Without firing a single shot :francis:

Turns out diplomacy and strategic partnerships are effective tools of persuasion. Who would've thought :leon:

But let's wait and see. I like where things are going tho :wow:

I just need Ethiopia and a united Somalia to come to an accords about the Ogaden

Then I'll plant my banana farm by the Jubba river :lolbron:
