So how are u trying to argue with a song that wasn’t available for purchase vs a song that has PROVEN accomplishments and accolades? :dahell:

Why doesn’t Nas have a Grammy for not even ONE song or album if his cultural impact and influence is so much greater than Jay Z’s? :dahell:

You see we talk cultural impact and the guy mentions Grammys :mjlol:

One song was available for sale. The other wasn’t. So you can’t argue one went double platinum because the other wasn’t available for sale.

there are proven accomplishments for both songs. How they charted. Which was essentially the same.

plus, if you were around in real time they were both big records. I’d argue Made You Look was a bigger record.

Grammies are irrelevant to the culture. I’m not even sure we are talking about the same thing since you are bringing up Grammies.
The Grammys are only irrelevant when they don’t fit a narrative. The Grammys are the pinnacle of music recognition, good or bad right or wrong. What rapper didn’t strive for one pre 2010?

DMX is not seeing Jay. His body of work isn’t deep enough. Kanye could beat Jay, though. La Familia ish, Roc Boys :wow:

I don't even know what song 2nd childhood is :heh:
That’s ok. That tells me you are either a casual fan or young (and haven’t done your homework). At least you still have hearing Second Childhood for the first time to still look forward to :mjcry:

This is all false. The Grammies usually failed to even nominate the correct artists, let alone actually recognize who was making the dopest shyt.

the Grammies are irrelevant to hip hop.

Besides If I Ruled The World, Street Dreams, and One Mic what cultural impact has any of those songs had? And I’ll even give you Nas is Like. :comeon:Y’all just naming songs.
I’m at a loss for what you consider cultural impact. What is your definition?

It only became irrelevant in hip hop recently. Ironically, I would say it's lost it's importance to hip hop when Nas didn't win 1 for Life Is Good.

Anything that moves the culture. It has everyone talking about it, is successful commercially, and that is regarded as something special for a long time. Illmatic and Reasonable Doubt, Ether, Hardknock Life, Empire State of Mind, 03 Bonnie & Clyde, etc.

These are heavily factored on hit records not every song you play has to be a smash but they sway the course of the versuz

Nas would lose in this setting he hasn’t had a hit since 02, Jay still has stuff he can play up to BP3
Hits and culturally significant records.

Do people not know what "N.Y. State of Mind" or "If I Ruled the World" or "Made You Look" is? :gucci:

No, they don’t.

Not like they know Jay songs. “Can I Get A...” is some chit that (and I quote)
“got played at every Bar Mitzvah”. Those are the songs that win on Versuz,
and Nas doesn’t have very many songs like that.

Why are you bringing up Bar Mitzvah’s on a hip hop forum, and Versuz, the way some of you pander to things and people out your culture is a shame, reason why I loved the Jill Scott and Erykah Badu, or Bernie Man vs Bounty Killer vs or Teddy Riley vs Babyface clashes, Hip Hop has turned into a culture vulture paradise cause of people like you who enable it, no disrespect to anyone but what does songs getting played in a bar mitzvah have to do with Jay-Z and Nas and the culture of rap in general?

Those are not the songs which win on VS I say again you haven’t been keeping up, VS is not formulated around Bilboard hits, unless the artists are rappers who’s career is formulated around them like Nelly or Luda for example.
