My downstairs neighbor has a relative that works as a gas station clerk in the midwest and has his own apartment. I was like how :why:.
My entire family and friends are out here in Cali, but man it may be time for me to make that move outta here :patrice:

Trust, if I didn't have an older family member that I'm going to help take care of coming out here I would be leaving this summer. shyt is only going to get worst. They're basically pricing everyone not rich out of Cali.

how far are yall willing to commute for an IT job? Are yall willing to relocate?

Im stuck in a small city in Texas and all the IT jobs are in DFW or Austin areas. I make $14 a hr but there's jobs in Dallas offering like $18-20 for basic help desk type shyt. Never commuted or just moved before :lupe:

Houston is one of one of the most affordable metro areas in the country. The weather ain't bad either and lots of young people are moving there so the food scene is blowing up too. This is a better time than any. Get some experience and increase you salary bruh. Back in March I moved from a Redneck town in Florida to Chicago to kickstart my career. I don't regret it. Best of luck, fukk $14 an hour.

Skill up and go get it. :salute:

I was thinking Houston too. Houston is actually like where i wanna retire . Either way, im deep into this CCENT book. I said fukk all the bs , im going for the bang for buck . CCENT - MCSA - CCNA -Net + - Sec + . My deadline is August 2020 to be moved with a new IT job.

MightveM just stumbled across the big bag :wow:

First thing I'm doing after getting this next job is getting the CCSP and CISSP and I'm done with the certlife for a while. Time to maximize my earning potential so I can invest and retire early.

Been a crazy year and well be even crazier as everyone scrambles to upgrade all our Win 7 and Server 2008 machines. We definitely won't finish by the end of the year:no:
All I can is that we all knew this time was coming and the people in charge sat on it until the last minute. Hope everyone else isn't in the same boat.

So I just got my router and switch in today. I’m gonna buy another 2811 and 2 more switches. I’m almost done with this CCENT for Dummies book and last night I was dreaming of FA0/0 , S 0/0/0, OSPF, RIPv2 etc . I think I might be CCENT ready by the end of the month. I’m happy af!!

Congrats on starting your network engineering journey breh. Here's some bits of advice from a CCNP that's being pressured to get his CCIE by management :mjcry::

When studying for your CCENT read the whole ccna book then just take the tests in 2 parts.

Before you take the exam print out the exam topics and write down everything you can remember for each topic. If you struggle on a topic, focus on those the hours before the test.

Live routers are cool but Cisco's packet tracer is free. Once you start working you'll realize that all that serial interface shyt is dead and everything is done via Putty/SSH client.

Boson practice exams have a pass guarantee and are worth their weight in gold. It's a dude on the reddit ccna page that comes thru regularly with discount codes. His name on there is Bosonmichael.

If you need any more help PM me. Im in the DC area and I always see network engineering jobs all over CA on job sites. The money is there breh especially if you can get a clearance.

Best textbook/exam material for Security+?
& for those who have passed, how difficult was it in comparison to A+?

whats stopping you? :mjpls:

I have a better salary return on effort taking 3 months to get my CISSP and another 6 months getting CCDP than putting a year + to get the CCIE.

Not to mention I've been catching up on network automation through Cisco DevNet and following David Bombal.

There's just more shyt I'm interested in at this point than BGP, MPLS and DMVPN.

Got notice today that I'll be laid off in the coming months :to:

I already started applying to jobs, and I plan on just taking online courses at work until my last day. If I'm still at my job on the last day; I qualify for severance, and maybe able to get a prorated amount of my annual bonus. If you were in my shoes, would you just stay until the last day to collect the extra money or find another job before the last day?

At least they gave you a notice,,,,, back in 2014 when I got laid off, they just told us to come in early at 7:00am and kicked us out with courtesy boxes :pacspit:
Do not wait to find another job bro,,
