Last year, Billboard had Kendrick in the top 10. I forgot where he was ranked, but ya'll were in an uproar. If Kendrick was not in your Top 10, 5, 3 or wasn't your GOAT before, I don't really see how him defeating Drake moves that needle.

I saw Kendrick get raked over the coal for TPAB (which I still think is the best album of last decade) and Mr. Morale (which was nowhere near as bad as this board made it out to be). People were talkong about he fell off.

All of his albums IMO are great. That's where he excels. More so than most artists, he makes true concept albums where they really do tell a story.

I don't get excited for a Kendrick feature as that's the worst part of his artistry. He has some dope ones like his feature on Game's "The City". He doesn't really blow me away lyrically as much. Nowhere near wack. He's great, but not elite.

This is just my take on Kendrick. Out of the "Big 3", he's the most consistent and the better lyricist.
Essentially this.
Dismantling Drake was huge for Kendrick’s legacy. I can easily see how someone would have him in their top 10 now if they didn’t before. He already has classic albums under his belt but he straight shytted on the most dominant rapper of the past 10+ years with ease.
I don't see how you say that so easily. The thing is, you're willing to give entry into that conversation, but you're an exception and not the rule. The majority of people who were gatekeeping are your generation or older, and (rightfully) weren't putting Drake on that level either. Dismantling Drake doesn't hold much currency with them.

I've had to explain to my uncle a couple times what makes Kendrick great. Granted he had someone tell him GKMC was Illmatic/Ready to Die level and went to listen with expectation.of feeling that same way, but still.

I wouldn't go nearly that far, but he answered a LOT of question/critics. Have to respect that man.
Reason I made this thread is I want to know why he isn’t. Not your GOAT? Cool. He’s not my GOAT either. But why can’t he be in the convo, once you get past personal preference and base it strictly on criteria?

Somebody link a classic banger from Kendrick that gets everyone out their chair when it comes on..

Cause that's what is missing in my ears. He's hella dope, but dudes like Biz, Greg Nice, and ODB who aren't the "best" rappers have smash hits that burn to this day.
Alright and MAAD City are those 2 bangers

I was actually out one night at an ale house and they played money trees (im in florida) and everyone sung that shyt word for word but I won't count that

Instead of laughing, I wanna know why he isn’t in the convo. I made this post for debate purposes.

Is Beanie Sigel in the goat debate:mjlol:?

The answer to that would be no. And thats not even an insult to Beans whos probably in and out of my top 10,but mostly in. I think Kendrick moved into some peoples top 10s after this showing. But that doesnt put you in the goat convo imo. If the new generation wanted to put Kendrick as the goat,i probably wouldnt be mad at it. But if you are over the age of 35,arguing Kendrick as the goat? Ridiculous imo.

So i guess to answer your question,it depends on whos having the convo. Along with the classic he benefited from a weaker era argument:sas1:

I’m just being objective. Even if folks my age don’t put much weight in Drake (me included) I can still acknowledge he’s one of the biggest hip hop acts of all time. If Drake didn’t have that ghostwriting asterisk next to his name I’d prolly say he belongs in the top 10 convo. He’s one of the most dominant rappers ever. So for Kendrick to do what he did to him cements his legacy imo. He’s done it all at this point and that’s not even including all the accolades and critical acclaim.

This might be his biggest song

But this is my favorite

The Humble joint is hot.

I do remember hearing it.

I'm coming around. I'm a #barz dude so I understood he had that already.. I was Canibus fan so I know that #barz aren't everything.

Gonna spin the other joint but looks like I gotta go to YT cause of content.

Post me a track

His best track. His most classic track. Something

I ignore new music since early 2000s. But I am not totally unaware. Point being: I don't recall a classic banger from Kendrick. Refresh my memory or educate me.
Not his best track, but this is the track that made me start checking for him

A banger track with a west coast sound

One of his best songs
