This is why a lot of Nigerians are choosing Canada over the US as the place to study and work. I've been in the US since early 2000's and didn't get my PR til mid 2013. Even then, won't be a citizen til 2020. In Canada you can get citizenship within 5 years of entry. Once you have one Western passport, then your good anywhere in the world.
