Something like this seems normal back in day, both parties having to fight for something not perfect but making it work. Both would be laughed at online trying something like that now, women would say she seeing "potential in a school teacher" gonna have her working and not living a soft life, and guys for him going back after they broke up..

All good. We had already kinda drifted apart when we were in the UK, and we almost split there. But talked it out. Things returned to normality for a while and me and her felt like we were back on track. Things felt good.

Us moving to Canada was supposed to be a fresh start and for the first two years it was, but I started to feel increasingly unhappy and I could feel we were both going through the motions. And we started to drift again. Some other shyt happened that brought things to a climax. But this time we asked each other if we would be happy staying together and decided to call time.

In the moment it was devastating this is someone I was with for 12 years, it honestly took 2 years to find myself again, but looking back now and through the emotional upheaval I feel better.

In person interactions in somewhere like public/semi public spaces/the gym, are kinda harder with little barriers like staring at your phone, and ear buds, even that little thing can throw the interaction off

My advice, and what I try to follow is actually have something to say. Doesn't have to be revelatory. But genuine. That way the interaction can either scale up or scale down, but you can leave it in a place you can pick up again. The issue, to me, with things that aren't genuine is that you rely on the other person to kind of catch the baton, even if you aren't giving a lot. If it's a compliment, make it genuine/

When I have those kinds of dynamics, for example in my neighborhood, staring, eye contact, start with just an intro, name, and "Hey I always see you here", and introduce yourself. It sounds like "old school", but it's a low stakes way to build a connection.

Just two days ago, some woman I have waved hi to about 50x, we just happened to be in exact same spot, and within 5 seconds we were talking about Air the movie, which opened up a whole subject we can connect on.
