There are a lot of micro and macro factors that contribute to a changing society, and changing relationships between men and women, but I really think social media is the most relevant one. People can say misogyny, or extreme feminism or whatever, or finances, or whatever it is, but all those views have always existed, they just were nowhere near mainstream. And people weren't incentivized to use narrative through video to get clicks and followers.

In the last few days, both a man, 39, and a woman, 35, showed me different videos on social media on their phones, that underline this whole argument. I never look at that shyt, only in this thread. The video my boy showed was like this:

A clip of Denzel Washington, probably 35 years ago, accepting an Oscar, and his voice starts talking about women, and then the video fades out, and it's just his voice, on a long rant about how if a woman ever leaves you, never forgive her, never chase her, it just went on like that in Denzel's voice. It was clearly AI. It's not that the advice is exactly poisonous, it's the narrative. The narrative of rigidity and vindictiveness, anchored by celebrity.

The clip the girl showed me was one of those POV: why you should stay with your man or stay home (there are no good men out there) and it was shot in a hookah lounge somewhere, it showed a woman at the bar filming her surroundings, and clowning the men she saw. Some looked funny, some looked normal. But again, it was the narrative being pushed.

And these people aren't consuming one video a day, they are consuming dozens. My gut feeling is if social media didn't exist, and people had no platform to post these videos, or messages or whatever, you would see major changes. The only difference with me is not having social media. So I pretty much feel the same way about women I always did, back in high school.

shyt is evil and a silent killer in society. People can’t really separate or think on their own anymore and use whatever talking points agree with their own agendas. No matter right or wrong. There was never this divide before where people were so against each other and celebrating the distance. Even in terms of family relationships people rather ghost cut off etc vs grow hold themselves accountable and mend issues. Sad days ahead.

There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, 4treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— 5having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.

:wow:

Right. Not only that, but they don't know HOW to mend relationships or solve conflict. Or even see the value. Even some of my boys, they are quicker to sub someone on IG, rather than have a conversation. Not even to get started on the women.

On a related point, I was talking about the show I Love LA the other week, which is satire, but very accurate: has anyone noticed how insanely dramatic and conflict ridden many people's friendships have gotten? We can keep it on women. mediated on social media or texts, they are nearly weekly centers of conflict and position jockeying. I hear snippets of these stories and try to tie it to larger social trends.

Random memory from earlier this year.

On the train, see a young sista on her way someplace. College aged or whatever.
  1. Random Indian/Arab high schooler gets on the train from a different stop.
  2. Sits next to her. (the train has people on it, but it's not crowded)
  3. He asks her for lotion.
    1. She had to dig through her purse
  4. She gives him some lotion.
  5. He then asks her for some water.
  6. She gives him the bottle of water she was drinking from.
  7. He finishes it, leaves the bottle on the train, and gets off at the next stop.
At first, I was like, did he know her?
The more I thought about it, it didn't seem like it.
Before I had a chance to rap with the sista, she got off the train.

It's one of those odd things that just sticks in my brain, and I don't know where to put it.

So why not unburden myself and let you guys figure it out.

Bro this is my biggest pet peeve with people these days smh. Nobody would even call or meet up in good faith to discuss and solve an issue. Instead sub post to death looking for sympathy and online support from strangers who don’t know nothing. Not everyone is your enemy the paranoia and ego we as a society live with is sad.

It is what it is. This was something i had to get used to after my last relationship

Now? I just try to let life sort them out. No use trying to rationalize or educate stupid or selfish people so they can be smarter or better for other ppl. Let them go through life unhappily with their mentality. It will catch up to them eventually
