I gotta hope that these athletes (Chris Paul and Lebron) are much more savvy today than the athletes of past and actually hold their own in this labor dispute.
It's even deeper than that though. As an athlete, even beyond the money, you only have a finite number of years to perform, especially at your peak. Guys like LeBron and Paul probably don't want labor stoppages just from the fact they want to build upon their basketball legacies. Not to mention that the guys who don't make $10M+ a year are usually gonna need to actually get those checks to cover their expenses and can't afford any lengthy lockouts.

One thing general public fails to take into account that often the rich are the greediest people out. Same with general politics. Just cause the owners are billionaires people assume that they'll be happy with making a nice profit as if they wouldn't scrape for every extra dollar they can get still. shyt baffles my mind.
Their greed and mentality of scrapping for every dollar is what made them billionaires. It's hard to rewire your brain after that. Once your content with what you have, you don't gain anything more.

Good point. The savvy would have to cover the notion that this issue is greater than them. That they're setting a precedent for future players coming...

This makes me think of the recent John Oliver skit and how owners are building arenas with public money instead of private funds. The hustle going on in pro sports is simply staggering. Consider how often they win the PR battle as owners over players or owners over concerned taxpayers.

Only a problem when it's nikkaz making the money... :mjpls:

its not the cats at the top of the food chain like lebron kobe and cp3 that bend, its the mid level and lower level guys out in these streets living check to check that are ready to drop their draws and bend over to the owners if the labor stoppage is more than a week or two.

If they fold this time, they are fukking idiots.

NBA players are the highest paid athletes on average AND HAVE BEEN FOR YEARS!!! Median, not even average NBA salary, is 2 million plus.

This isn't the NFL where the median is still 6 figures.

It's a fukking 50/50 deal right now right? No way in hell can they expect the players to go below that.

The owners will always beat the players in a lockout. The public and most importantly the media will always back the owners.

The owners have an infinite amount of money in their war chest. They still get money from the networks if there is a lockout. The owners have stadiums which they rarely spent a cent on and get all the revenue from. These stadiums still make money from concerts, conventions, boat and car shows, cheer leading competitions, rodeos and etc. The league as a whole which is worth billions and can get a loan which it has in the past and then spread that loan out to the owners who can't pay their bills. Finally the owners can take out loans on their own teams which are worth billions to pay their bills until the lockout is resolved.

The players are employees and cannot beat them money wise. No more different than any other employee.

I don't know why folks don't understand this after 2008 economy died. We had folks making over 100k crying broke. Why because most people live beyond their means and if you do not produce anything you are under the rule of people who employ you.
