Statistics without context don't mean anything. There are stats that show how "fukked up" black men are that show how many are in jail, lack advanced degrees, etc but if you're not ready to talk about all of the socioeconomic issues that slant the stats and not look at numbers in a vacuum it's a waste of time.

Even if you do that, you'll have the self-hating moon crickets talkin bout "Stop making excuses for these hood rats" :mjpls:

That's was the point. Why would I post a bunch of stats? My first response was long as hell and it discussed psychological and sociological issues that black men face. However, many of you guys want to focus on one sentence about the thread not getting many responses :smh:

This forum is proof... yes... I think to a large degree American society has embraced failure

Everyone is so quick to claim being a victim

Black men do have more legit reasons to cry victim than most folks but at the end of the day we still do dumb shyt. Its a lot harder to go to prison if you dont get involved with crime. Its a lot harder to get tagged with child support if you don't nut raw in a chick you have no business interacting with, let alone having sex with. Etc. Nowadays everyone loves to run from responsibility, black men included
So do you think that doing "dumb shyt" is inherent in black people or do you think that it's more about the legit reasons that you alluded to? It shouldn't be about crying victim, it shouldn't be about ignoring the truth either. It should be about being truthful and honest about the situation. The problems facing the black community are complex so obviously the solutions are too. You sound like Nancy Reagan when she was on her "just say no" BS. If you think that the answer to our problems with the prison industrial complex is just telling black people "hey, just don't commit crimes" then you don't get it. You don't have to use white supremacy as an excuse to not succeed in order to acknowledge it. The question of the thread is worded poorly, but I do believe that a lot of black people have accepted failure to a certain degree. A lot of blacks have bought into the hype and subconsciously believe that they're inferior. It's sad but it's true.

My question is doesn't black women face these same socioeconomic forces yet they are succeeding ahead of us. Not trying to make this thread bout black women. This is bout us and doing better breh.

Not really. It's basically a proven fact that black men are targeted and profiled by the police and younger black men are increasingly treated like criminals while in elementary and middle school (being handcuffed instead of suspended, etc). In some places, they are even charging these young men with felonies for fights and whatever else. Once you have that F on your back, you are ineligible for financial aid and job prospects decrease.

Aside from these lost brothas, there are cats that play it straight and still have difficulties becoming gainfully employed. Black women are seen as less threatening and tend to find it easier in the working world right now. Unemployment rates for college educated black men have been higher than black women for a while now.

Then there's another can of worms trying to explain why the college graduation rate for black men is lower than for black women...it's deeper than pulling ya pants up & trying harder.

Post these stats. If you don't I'm going to research them and post them my self. We (as in black man) need to see the reality we in, we can talk about what all those socioeconomic forces are but what are we doing to combat them beside saying oh well the deck is stacked against me so fukk it.

I was thinking about this the other day. Some young black males dreams are relatively easy to do but low success rate;rapping, sports, drug dealing etc.

I had a friend in high school who bought his own car, from small time drug money($1500 4 door. Chevy) this dude acting like it was a big accomplishment that he had reached. Other than fast food he never had a job and he dropped outa high school.

I'm thinking that's what you lived for, this nikka ain't even 30 with a 15 yr old daughter(4kids in all).

I think there many factors. But I think the biggest is that they put to much stock in the wrong things. And are two close minded/brainwashed to branch out.

I hope they haven't. I would like to say they are lazy and don't have their priorities in order. Which is something that can be changed. But the young black male seems to inherently work against themselves. Popular music to young black males incourages crab like behavior.

I'm trying to find an excuse not to agree, but I can't.

I got an argument for you. If I'm off base let me know.

Early in the 1900 black were not allowed to play proffessional sports. What did we do? We created our own leagues and eventually intergrated than took it over. They said we couldn't do it and we proved them wrong. Now my question is why can't we do the same in term of education. Why don't we use the same mentality we use to excel at sport to excel at education?

the problem is that other avenues of success or not that easy to find
rappers, entertainers, athletes success stories are everywhere for young black dudes to gravitate towards

no other lanes are presentable to them and even if they are...it seems so foriegn to them they cant fully understand the dedication and motivation it took...

name one black success story we have outside of Jayz, obama, or some other mainstream bullshyt?
one black ceo story? black invention story? we aint got none

the dudes that truly want success are gonna get it however
the drug game killed off alot of black doctors, scientist, lawyers
thats a big ass gap we still aint bounced back from...the dope game( crack specifically)...it had the same effects as slavery
lil dudes need to be motivated in different ways besides the athlete, rapper, entertainer image

but i agree wit you just addin my lil 2 cents

black women are ahead because like women in general they are more mature than us. only difference is they get caught up with their emotions

go to any black college campus and they outnumber us by far
go to any technical, kaplan, everest college and its full of black women tryint o better themselves

lol these nikkas actually diss women for goin to nursing school
how fukkin dumb is that?

also yall diss the hood girls but i see wayyyyyyy more of them gettin their life together compared to a black dude who made mistakes and are tryin to make up for it

its something wrong with society where the man is pointin the finger at the woman...no community has done that that wasnt ran by fakkits

Trust me I have my share problem with certain black women mentality, but nikkas need to ask themselves this. If the black women they deal with ain't shyt what environment are they putting themselves in to constantly deal with said women. As a man shouldn't we fix our own house 1st before you go criticize somebody else.

Yes, we're striving for mediocrity, as opposed to success.
fukk getting a decent job, create an opportunity for yourself and your fellow people.
Also, there's a problem for American black males want so badly to be accepted to the white community, hence why you see a lot of top stars run off to white woman when they get on. We need to fully on say fukk IT to trying to get accepted, and rather stay w/ your own and build w/ our own. There's a lack of pride, we want to run away from our true being and identity, hence the Africa threads. Outright, teach your kids and anyone younger than you(who will listen) to embrace themselves and to want to build for themselves and their fellow blacks.

You talking about education is this country right now?

Excel at education = memorize, regurgitate and repeat to pass a class that has nothing to do with real life. Just stay in line, take on all that debt and follow everybody else.

But I digress...if school was relatively free like starting a baseball team is you may be on to something but it's not. Grade schools aren't adequately preparing black men for high school, the high schools aren't preparing us for college and college aren't preparing us for the real world. We would have to blow the whole system up and take a more hands on approach to our children's education from the jump.

dog its human nature for women to be soft, nurturing and emotional

alot of these females get mislead and get dogged out by US

when i see a woman that aint shyt....alot of the time i blame the nikkas because a female can get persuaded to anything if presented right

it starts off in middle school, then highschool...these lil nikkas crazy i see it all the time in the hood

these lil females dont know what be goin on...nikkas is wayyyy more advanced then the females from what i seen with my own eyes

Co-sign the boldest to the fullest. I'm about 3 months away from graduating from a pretty decent college and I can't tell you how many bullshyt classes I've taken that I'll never use in real life :aicmon:

I see it like this mayne. Yea its important to acknowledge problems. But after a certain point, talk doesn't mean shyt. If a problem is really important to you, eventually you have to do something about it, or STFU and acknowledge it doesn't mean anything to you.

You talk about the prison industrial complex. Thats a deep problem that kind of starts as soon as these kids are in school. But at the end of the day, only 7% of black Americans actually go through it. Are way more affected? Sure, but the point is we bear all responsibility for the choices we make, and the fact that 100% of black males aren't going to prison says to me its more than "the system".

At the end of the day the best thing we can do is take the pieces of our lives we have control over into our own hands. Right now we are weak and looking to be saved by the very forces that people blame for our problems. If we take control of our lives we can position ourselves to be empowered and effect the systematic changes we need to make happen.
