This is not really an argument, or a subject I really care to go back and forth on.
My perspective on it, is I just don’t think the battlers would be able to pull it off. It’s that simple. I think they like the idea. I just don’t think they would actually execute it.
I know a lot of people in different film unions who are basically children, that doesnt matter at all breh, one of my boys is 36 and JUST opened his first bank account so he could get direct deposits finally
What matters is if the heads of the union have enough legal/business sense to stay on a leagues neck if they dont follow the rules
As wild west as the film industry seems it always trips me out when my OldHead (president of one of the unions in the region) is tellin me how they have these billion dollar company heads sweating during negotiations
It can work in battle rap, the thing with me is battle rap doesnt make enough money for the leagues to really give a fukk, and in general music as a whole hasnt figured out the union thing for artists yet
Weirdly enough i wanna hear what Avo gotta say about this since he's prolly in the camera union out in Cali, i know he dont be lettin URL jerk him or his crew outta they money![]()
Im just sayin he nor his people working for him are walking away from an event with 0 dollars after all these yearsHe didnt get paid at KOTD probably just expensed etc and/or a cut of the ppv. Not sure about URL
i aint buyin itYou're boring, it's been boring from the jump but you flogged this horse dead while agoSo Blac jumps in the strike shyt and announces he's discontinuing COTN.
Mind you he's not a battler and "independent" so in theory this shouldn't concern him. At all.
Battlers have already exposed that the COTN money was coming from the PPV backend.
What's the excuse now Blac defenders?
Zilch, nada, fukk all. Battle rappers aren't business minded at all (save for Hollow, Lux et al). The very idea of them coming together for a common cause is laughable, especially when there'll be financial forefeit involved .Nothing will come from this.
I only got 1500 for you Cortez. And you cave and take it Cortez, that's not Smacks fault. Smack don't owe you for years of service, he pays you an agreed amount each time you battle and you agree to it.or, more likely, they get a check or cash and dont report it when/if they pay taxes, meaning they don't submit 1099s. which is real convenient for everyone on a day-to-day, especially the company, until you're the owner and have to scramble to classify these guys as contractors when they're not that, either, and the other side is saying we arent contractors, and we've formed a union, pay us or else.1099 contract workers
The only thing holding back Bill Collector from being up there on the best battlers of the year list is that he's not doing enough three rounders
He's been cooking but idk if you nikkas paying attention
These battle rappers are more like 1099 contract workers than unionized full time employees.
Contract workers pay for their own insurance and benefits and are not required to accept any job they don't want and can negotiate pay before the contract is agreed.
If you tell Smack I'm not battlin for less than 2500 and he says fineI only got 1500 for you Cortez. And you cave and take it Cortez, that's not Smacks fault. Smack don't owe you for years of service, he pays you an agreed amount each time you battle and you agree to it.
Smacks whole business is off supply and demand. Smack could never call Cortez again in his life and it wouldn't hurt the URL brand, do these battlers think they are gonna stop smack by striking?
So every battler wants 5-10k on a card now lol SMH.
The way battle raps been going most these rappers deserve a pay CUT.
Smack prolly should make PPV numbers public though, however I see why he wouldn't. Someone like Cortez gonna see smack made 500k and ask him why he can't get 10k a battle, "i know you got it Smack"
Im gonna be 100% honest with you, this 'strike' feels like a hissy fit in response to Smack being upset over Summer Madness. On some "oh you're gonna blame us we'll show you Smack" completely deflecting the fact that the battlers themselves are culpable.
Idk what a permalancer is.I agree with most of this except for the pay cut; only reason I say that is because you still have those who show the fukk up and they shouldn't have to suffer because a few of them fail to bring it. You're right, they are more like 1099 workers and I never thought of it that way. But also, they could be Permalancers. Judging by how you spoke on the subject, I have a feeling you have heard the term and those folks, if I am not mistaken, have representation as far as a union.
Now they can't be mad at SMACK completely because he shouted the folks he felt did good. If they were on the card and didn't do their job well, they will have to review the gametapes and get feedback on what they have done wrong. I don't how it works behind the scenes but if their gonna treat this like business and a job then, structuring shyt around more like this could get rid of some of these problems.
Idk what a permalancer is.
Don't get me wrong I'm for workers rights, and the battlers deserve fair pay and representation, and probably access to the ppv numbers.
I mean if smack is selling 50k ppvs at 50$ a pop multiple times a year he is clearing millions. But he's also fronting the money, paying the streaming service, avo, the battlers, the venue, and splitting that money up between staff. But it'd still be a lot of money, so I get why cats want to see it.
But I mean we know what UFC will clear on a PPV, but the guys not drawing the numbers don't magically get larger pay checks. I guess what I'm saying is Smack is the business owner, of course he's making a larger portion of the money. I get it though. It's like athletes. Say the NFL, the owners are billionaires, the players are millionaires, crumbs in comparison. If the players all just stopped today it'd stop the revenue stream for the billionaires, so I get the mentality of 'hey why is he rich off my talent?'
But it mainly comes down to capital. It's true without the rappers Smack wouldn't be rich. I just think some of the rappers think they contributed more to the draw than they did. Like Cortez and Swave Sevah? both of which I really like actually, but come on. If you two disappear from battle rap nothing would change at all, so you two striking is funny to me. It's like only bench players striking in the NBA.
What top tiers are on strike? Or have the top tiers been smarter about their business? I actually don't know for all I know the top tiers are on strike.
As you can see I'm a little on the fence cause I see both sides. If I'm Smack I'm lookin at Cortez like you? you're lucky I'm giving you 2500 an it's cause we're family I'm even doing that. Cortez probably generates 300$ for Smack every battle from his homies buying tickets. Just cause smack put you on a ppv that made 2.5 mil doesn't mean you deserve thousands of more dollars. Smack knows who on the card was the selling points and to what degree. And that's usually how the pay is doled out.
Don't be mad Hitman got 25k and you 2500. Hitman generated that 25k you didn't generate shyt.
