These verbal agreements, and this dumbass moratorium period needs to go by next summer. Silver needs to fix this

Dallas proceeded moving forward thinking they had Deandre signed. They inked Wes Matthews, made trades to make this possible. Can completely alter the course of their franchise

Not to mention one big signing sets into motion a domino effect with other signings around the league

I know it's for good fukkery and it's great seeing Cuban get screwed... but nah

Reflects poorly on the league period
you worried about Jimmy :mjpls:

No, because jobs in the real world don't have 'moratorium periods' lol

and thats not a very apt comparison. Deandre has been with the Clippers and they offered him the most $$ - he really just decided thats the job he wanted RIGHT now? lol cmon now

lets just put it this way, its stupid to try to relate normal jobs to the NBA. just stupid

Marc Stein and Windhorst reported that Cleveland offered Thompson a 80million dollar deal...And people thought the contract was crazy for a backup. Now the Cavs seemingly pulled that deal off the table, they're back to negotiating and we haven't heard a peep. It has to be a 2-way street.

And what precedent is that...don't trust any of these fickle man children until you get ink on paper? It's not like teams don't know this is a possibility.
I dont see why you are trying to be argumentative about this

Whatever point youre trying to make doesnt make more sense than just having the NBA remove this stupid gray area and allowing players/teams to sign contracts when free agency opens

You really dont see the precedent this starts? Its never happened before and teams have always operated comfortably on these verbal agreements, but NOW its on the Mavs?

This just completely altered the course of their franchise

The Cavs didnt pull the contract offer

Tristan is just pushing for more guarantees, and the Cavs want it incentive laden

Its not comparable to this situation whatsoever

Nba is a business...

Rule 1 of business...

Nothing matters until someone signs a contract...

What's funny is that in the business world people do this all the time...say they will sign on somewhere and then sign on somewhere else...

Owners do it all the time...talk that team shyt...talk that unity shyt...promise that "if you have a big year we going to give you an extension"

But when a player does it...all of a sudden we need to "change the rule"

I wonder why :mjpls:

These dumb ass Owners and GM's already have an entire fukking CBA to protect them from themselves...and now we got to make another rule to save them from making dumb decisions :yeah ok:

There is nothing wrong with how NBA free agency is structured...there is something wrong with a guy who is as cocky as cuban and as smart as cuban is supposed to be not being able to convince a person to take an 80 million dollar contract in a state that has no state tax...

There is something wrong with us hearing way more about Chandler Parsons recruiting Deandre than we here about Mark Cuban recruiting Deandre...

There is something wrong with Cuban and Dan Fegan...Deandre agent...being close personal friends...and now Deandre saying he felt pressured by Fegan to go to the Mavs...that's pretty much collusion...

If reports are to be believed...there is something wrong with Fegan telling Doc that if Deandre stays he got to trade Chris Paul...as if that would actually happen...

Seems like Fegan made it pretty much impossible for the clippers to keep Deandre while doing everything he could to make sure Deandre signed with Dallas...

Which should give you some insight into just how fukking stupid and inept mark cuban is...

Even with tampering, collusion, and an agent goosing the game for him this fukking dumbass still can't outright sign a big name free agent...

Cuban is quickly rising up the list of people I think are way more lucky than smart cause he sure as shyt doesn't seem to know how to get giant men to take 10 of millions of his money while being able to assure said giant man that the state of texas won't tax him for any of it...

Dwight did the same thing a couple years ago. We are talking billionaire businessmen here. They didn't get where they are being stupid or naive or failing to cross every "t" and dot every "i". Players have the course of their career altered on the whims of owners after being given promises and assurance all the time. It's a dirty game. :yeshrug:.

didn't sacramento pull their deal from iggy a few years back?

elton brand to the clippers and braon davis.

this isn't new.

Question ... (and I dont know the answer)

Did Iggy agree to terms? Or did he sit on the contract and mull other offers?

Nah I'm not with it. Until the contract is signed, nothing is binding and it sounds like Deandre was under duress from his agent to sign the deal. I have no problem with players, who have earned their free agency BTW, having the ability to negotiate a deal and if they don't like it, have time to get out of that deal and find something else. If that's not where he wanted to truly go and has time to reconsider, I'm in favor of him getting it right and being happy with his decision
A verbal agreement can be just as good as a signature in the eyes of a court

They don't give a shyt about feelings

Why should there be a rule?

Why can't these owners and GM's just be good enough at their job to make sure the player signs after he says he signs?

And what is "bullshyt" about it...

Being able to change your mind is "bullshyt"?:dahellwhat:

"After ESPN.com reported Tuesday night that the Kings were going all-out to try to sign Iguodala away from the Nuggets, USA Today reported in the early hours of Wednesday that the Kings -- frustrated by Iguodala's unwillingness to give them a faster answer -- took the reported four-year, $52 million deal off the table."

If he was, they sure didn't give him a lot of time.
