Erykah mishandled that, I don't think a lot of women know she dropped. I thought it was just a mixtape til I saw it on spotify, that made me check for it on iTunes where I purchased it (love me some ms badu).

And Marsha's second album flopped, of course fukking around on aftermath was the kiss of death, now she's touring as floetry again, she doesn't seem focused on her solo career :francis:

I was :birdman: when Floetry broke up. Their first album was dope. They had a beautiful blend.

The thing is now is that they're trying to put R&B & Hip-Hop in the same box for us....Guys like Drake, Tory Lanez, Ty$ kill 2 birds with one stone. Since that is the current style in urban music thats hot right now, the right black female has to come along thats a rapper/singer hybrid who blends both genres together.

Something that sounds like this

But I'll say a Nicki Minaj lite that sings more than raps.

She also has to be somewhat of a sex symbol...just like Beyonce, Nikki & Rihanna.
She also has to have a strong fanbase thats loyal
And she also has to be big enough to where she can call shots and have writing camps to keep the hits rolling in.

Sadly, real black female singers have no spot on the radio....Even if your ratcheting up, its still not easy to breakthrough. I remember a time when they were pushing white ratchetness hard for a min (Lady Gaga, Kesha), but they dialed it back on it. Once white people discovered Adele, I knew it would be a wrap. Now they pushing music that uplifts the white community. They're not in business of looking for a "Black" Adele, they're gonna be looking for a new Adele thats the same shade.Adele a white singer makes uplifting ballads that you hear every fukking you turn it on, but they sure won't push a black female singer on there doing the samething.

"Traditional" Black female R&B that you're talmbat for the most part is made by Black males,
and there aren't any (new) Black males making that type of music.
There would have to be renaissance of that being cool to do, or there has to be someone
to bust the door down and make another lane.

Janell Monae had the right idea, but her application of it is too raw.

When I say successful, I'm not talking beyonce or rihanna level success, altho there should be at least someone near that range - Alicia keys  - I'm talking chris brown, weeknd (great example of becoming a breakout artist), trey songz levels.

Tink, Sevyn Streeter, Justine Skye and Willow Smith are the only artists I can see getting this level of success

If Janelle made more songs like Yoga due would be the one

Rih can't even sing, she stole her whole steez from santigold

Bruh - I've been sayin' this for days.

Rih came in with the pop wave, but it seem like as soon as Santigold showed up
Rih's folks said "fucc it, let's do that..."
Cold part is, it looked like people was rockin' wit' Santigold for a hot second.

It is lowkey, doe..."traditional R&B" is the chit that stays.

White folks are outchurr doing traditional R&B and eating...R&B artists are rappers.
Don't nobody who buys R&B want to hear somebody moan over trap beats.
R&B mixtapes ain't gonna get it.

I've been asking myself this for a while now and I don't know the answer. I feel like this should have been a hit song. Idk part of me wants to blame modern female fans who prescribe to this "beehive" vs "RihannaNavy" stan wars bullshyt. Beyoncé only releases an album every 2-3 years so in the meantime what do yall listen to?

The tiara Thomas's, Elle Mai's. Sevyn Streeter, etc should be somewhat "on"
