He didn't get a pass at the time. People seem to forget that the Peyon we know now - the charismatic, goofy, witty, affable guy - is essentially a modern-ish creation. The Colts Peyton was a guy who many people AT THE TIME argued was a great regular season QB who got clowned in the playoffs by Brady or someone else. That was the narrative. The colts routinely had a bad defense in all those peyton years. The year they won the SB their defense finally nutted up but they let MJD rush for like 250 one game.

That was one of the worst displays of run defense I’ve ever seen in an NFL game. Amazing that they went on to win the Super Bowl.

Bob Sanders was great during his peak, him getting healthy was really key for that SB run.

Peyton is the 2nd greatest QB in my book.

His downfall is that he controlled too much of the offense. His timing offense often gets disrupted sometimes even get murdered in the playoffs because the intensity goes up tenfold. and after the surgery his arm strength got weaker and weaker. you can see the difference in arm strength between brady and manning in this famous game




LOB was able to exploit him because Manning didn't have the arm strength and got confused by the speed and length of that D. that was never a problem for Brady, the GOAT. sometimes we forget the game of football is very simple. you gotta be able to thread the needle with not only precision, but with velocity. Manning lost his fastball around 2009. he had good enough arm, but when it came to a crunch game his weakness showed. in a way his ego got in his way because he refused to adapt. he refused to let the coordinator call plays. he needed to rely more on the run game and more on dink and dunk to compensate his ultimate weakness.


but no doubt, he was great brehs. He is the ultimate football genius. some of the things he's done was pure genius. i mean it's crazy how smart he was.

I have him over Montana simply because overall body of the work and his impact on the game. between montana and manning - if you ask me who i would pick win a playoff game then i would go Montana. but if you ask me to pick a player to start a franchise then peyton easily wins over Montana.
