Off topic a bit. Told all these Phillies fans I argue with. Last season: Michael Bourn > Hunter Pence

Just look what Atlanta gave up vs what Philly gave up to get their respective guy.

The Phillies bullpen is atrocious. The farm system isn't very good either. They also have way too much money tied into Howard, Utley, Rollins, and Lee.

Atlanta To New Orleans
So 9.5 GB out of the WC... 14 games out of 1st... just lost a series to the Braves, Howard AND Utley back is not helping your offense more..

So... how has the window not closed yet?

well its just not that

its his struggles with weight, alcohol, and commitment to baseball which would deter most teams from taking that contract

This still the thinking around these parts? :shaq2:

Also, the Phils are only 6 GB now. It'll be tough to get in, but they're getting hot at the right time.

Phillies will be back in the playoffs next year with that pitching

Windows not closed but not open too long because Lee and Halladay dont have many years left at a high level

...for this year, probably (and even then, they're playing well right now).

But OVERALL? Nah.

pretty obvious this is still a good team with a healthy Howard/Utley/Halladay

you can live with Mayberry and Brown for a full season, if they can get impact guys in center and 3rd. im not sure how they go about doing that tho

Back to .500 and currently the hottest team in baseball. No one would want to see them in the playoffs with that rotation and their experience.

Was there at The Bank tonite to watch us reach .500...that Stanton HR in the 6th sailed right over my head , two rows behind me....kid that caught it threw it back after we all chided him. :heh:

Team is on fire offensively right now, but our fukking bullpen is shytty. Even if we did somehow get that wildcard spot, I couldn't see us doing much in the postseason.

yeah that rotation and experience stifled the giants and cardinals the last couple seasons. no ones scared of the philles and their 1% chance to even make the playoffs

Baseball Prospectus | Playoff Odds Report

You're right; no team that's won a World Series before should ever lose a playoff series again. It's pathetic.

Edit: Beyond that, the last three times they lost in the postseason was: in the World Series to the Yanks, then to the eventual champs in the Giants and Cardinals (who went on an all-time tear and beat them 1-0 in Game 5 because of a classic performance from Carpenter). That's really something to hang your head about.
