Would be so much better if the NBA adopted elements of the NFL’s network TV schedule. Cable could still eat by doing weekday games while marquee weekend games can be on network TV after football season. If the league kept that up for at least five years they’d reap the benefits.

I think because all of us are on an online platform that requires a certain level of tech we assume that everyone has access to this which is false. Truth is, there’s a lot the NBA can do to bolster its ratings but it hasn’t done it.

DOING THIS FOR YEARS.

The West exposed him as "just another player" and not must see tv..

He had a damn near mythological status whilst hiding out in The East and was essentially Godzilla of that Kingdom.

Now the majority of upcoming young superstars (Luka, Ja, Zion, Booker etc) reside in The West.

He NEVER should have come to The West but he thought he was going to construct a super team of him Kawhi and AD which would have kept him as the top guy for another 5 years.

It didn't happen, and now with Lakers struggling outside of 1 year with him as the 1 guy he's been lapped :yeshrug:

The Celtics and Philly being good both at the same time means ratings.

The Celtics, Sixers, Lakers, and Knicks being good means a draw because those are the only NBA fans that love their team over player worshiping.

Norfeast groovin…
I don't agree. The NBA clearly draws much of its viewership and following outside of TV. Football fans watch TV religously. NBA fans are often found on all sorts of media outside of that platform. The NBA is still the most popular sports league on social media and clearly isn't as obsessed with ratings as many on here.

But why can’t the NBA also be competitive on other media platforms? That just sounds like an excuse to brush aside the fact that the NBA doesn’t have the best overall outreach. And again, it ignores the point I made that not everyone has cable and internet.

Plus, I don’t think it’s an obsession at least not on my part. I just think the league could do more. Besides, NFL is starting to encroach on Christmas Day so why shouldn’t the NBA try to be more competitive overall?

True but impossible for NBA since the actual teams are built on the individualistic superstar model :manny:

The goal of every front office has been to get two, in a perfect scenario 3, superstars and then surround them with interchangeable trash players.

Then the NBA will continue to rely on too volatile a variable (superstar talent) in order for their business to succeed instead of using more balanced promotion and cultivating stories beyond cheap superstar controversies.

Come on breh, they don’t do what I was describing. Network TV games aren’t as prevalent in the NBA as it is in the NFL.

both are championship caliber teams now. Much different than years back.

These teams historically have had the most dedicated followings. Only adds to it when they're both of on the cusp.

It's good for the league.

They do. That's literally why they have high viewership across multiple platforms and globally instead of just one catered towards the domestic market.

if anything the NFL has all its eggs in one basket. But its a big basket and they are the biggest player. These are business school basics. If your competitor has a stranglehold on a market with high entry/success barriers, move somewhere else to capture market share. The NBA has no need to go one on one with a league that for decades has monopolized American sports for two days of the week for TV ratings.
