It’s been sustainable though since Yao Ming, it’s business so keep the main thing the main thingAnd if some NBA player comes out criticizing the CCP or Xi Jinping then those 300 million people can potentially evaporate in the blink of an eye. Daryl Morey made a very mild criticism and they banned his teams' games from being shown there.
Doesn't sound like a sustainable business model to me having to walk on eggshells
THEY LITERALLY DO
WHAT YOU SAID...
AFTER NFL SEASON.
THEY SHOW SATURDAY NIGHT GMS
AND SUNDAY AFTERNOON GAMES
EVERY WEEK ON ABC EVERY SEASON.
They do. That's literally why they have high viewership across multiple platforms and globally instead of just one catered towards the domestic market.
if anything the NFL has all its eggs in one basket. But its a big basket and they are the biggest player. These are business school basics. If your competitor has a stranglehold on a market with high entry/success barriers, move somewhere else to capture market share. The NBA has no need to go one on one with a league that for decades has monopolized American sports for two days of the week for TV ratings.
NBA players benefit from their league way more than the NFL so why would the NBA want to become the NFL? NFL is the category king in traditional viewership so the NBA has to carve out their own niche.Facts, for a league so dependent on star power that’s a damning result. Honestly, the league needs to retire the individualistic “superstar” driven marketing model and make it more team oriented again. There’s more than enough with the sports media news cycle, endorsement deals, and social media to promote their stars.
USFL averaged 3 million viewers, NBA playoffs averaged 4 million.
Says a lot without saying much

I get what you are saying but the NBA already carved out their own lane for attention. All sports leagues are in the business of attention. What does the bolded have to do with the price of tea in China? lol, I ain’t say they should have non guaranteed contracts and increased CTE risks. I’m just saying they can implement different things from different leagues.
The NBA is like a crossroads between the domestically popular NFL and the globally popular football leagues. Why not peep game from both and try to utilize it to better benefit the game?
Not understanding why that sounds so crazy to y’all.![]()

At the end of the day it comes down to the presentation of the product and the NFL is the perfect sport for network tv ratings.I suppose so, just feels like if they in the business of attention then they’d want to exploit as many ways to get attention as possible. JMO tho….![]()
I don't think its worth it.Ok, I should clarify. I’m just saying they should do more of it. I think the NBA taking over weekends on network TV across multiple channels + their other advantages such as being an international game would help a lot. I think they have the product to do that.
ABC is cool, but I’d love to see, for example, the TNT crew get in on some big games on network TV via CBS, I’d like to see the NBA on Fox we haven’t seen that yet and it might actually be successful, and of course I’d like to see NBA on NBC make a comeback. Understood, that all might be easier said than done but I think it’s worth a try.
I don't think its worth it.
You're expanding just for expansion sake. Again, the NBA does not want to go head to head with the NFL. There's no benefit to that challenge.
Everyone has their own lane right now. If you're looking for sustainable long term growth, keeping it that way would be the best solution.
