There is only one real solution here in the US. You vet whom you choose to have a serious relationship with. The problem some men and women are having in our community is they are picking mates based mainly on superficial aspects of the person, and not whether the person actually has good character or not.
Vetting takes time, being perceptive, and actually listening to the person. Those are things too many people are not doing, and so too many people suffer the consequences. Blaiming one sex for the problem is not the move either, because the problem is a human problem that is viewed through the lense of each particular sex. Still the basic problem is a poor use of the god given agency a person has to choose well for a mate.
