If your approach to plant driven diets is primarily from a cruelty / protectionist standpoint, you will always run into dilemma like this :mjcry:

The sad fact is that tons of things in our society require animal products and/or labor to create. Husbandry is a part of the human experience. The best we can do is minimize our impact whenever we have the option :mjcry:
I seek to minimize all cruelty as an agent and observer. The truth is I can only do about 90 percent of what I consider "good" but that doesn't stop me and THAT is the real struggle. Little things like are my plants even cruelty free or wear the glue on my shoes comes from tear me up. Cruelty has no end! But to minimize it is to embrace your true nature. As long as I can thwart corporations, I'm a happy camper.

@Randall Flagg, @tmonster, @Broletariat,
Since I made the VG switch 45 days ago, I've lost -mad- weight :sadcam: I don't know why but I can't seem to be able to maintain my weight (which is already low because I've been skinny my whole life) and I think that I'm eating more (quantity wise) and better (more diverse). I think I'll buy some soy protein powder to make shakes/smoothies so I can drink em twice a day and have at least an above average protein intake. I've never been a fan of eggs (and I don't drink milk) and I can't see me forcing myself to eat more (I'm already struggling to eat a couple a week lol) and I don't really see any other solution to my current issue.

I think I should read stuff about the lifestyle but this bores me to death so maybe when making the switch I forgot something important I don't know. You guys use shakes or no ? If so, is there some easy recipes you guys have ?

OK, I'll keep track of my calorie intake next week and I'll get back to you with the results.

Nuts, nut butters, baked goods :flabbynsick::blessed:
I've been eating cashew nuts on a regular for a couple of weeks and (fried or not) potatoes more than before. But same, at some point, I feel disgusted eating too much nuts :henry:

I consider myself flexitarian. I think ive posted in this thread before...but as long as i can remember i have limited my meat intake.

I rarely eat red meat...one time a year on my birthday i get myself a wagu steak with the fam at barclay prime in philly :takedat:

I dont eat for many moral and ethical reasons but i just hate chewing meat especially when it is of generic quality.

I limit other meat intakes as well on a weekly basis...ill do fish twice one week then alternate to free range chicken from the farm down the street twice a week.

Essentially i will roll with this

Morning:
Spinach, carrot, banana, strawberry, blue berries with water

Mid morning snack:
Almonds

Lunch:
Spinach salad with veggies on top

Or

Ill make three bean salad variants

Mid afternoon snack:
Some sort of hipster granola bar

Dinner:
Dinner where i usually hit the chicken or fish as i am very active with exercise and shyt and i do see benefits from eating a normalish portion of meat. Perhaps its placebo but i do enjoy the calories they provide after a kettlebell workout.

Ill have that with either kale cakes (think muffins) quinoa and broccoli

Ill also make split pea, tomato, escarole, or any variation of soup...

It must be said that eating this way is fukkin way cheaper than a heavy diet centralised on meat products.

Also of note, now that i dont box or play baseball competitively i have moved away from traditonal weigh lifting and really focuses on kettlebells and plyo movements. Diet seems to work well with my caloric needs...

Six foot 165 ive been rolling with since highschool and it has not deviated more than one or two pounds...unless i was cutting for boxing but i dont do that anymore anyhoo

yes to shakes. my guess is you're low on fats. I personally can't do the nut butters and get tired of nuts at times so I put hemp seeds on/in pretty much everything. sandwiches, in smoothies, on salads

some bread with light oil, hummus, hemp seeds, some greens or sprouts, an avocado is quick calorie dense meal that won't leave you feeling heavy

costco has the cheapest hemp seeds/good hummus/nuts/oils so it's a good place if you have one around

Make sure you work some good grain based dishes into your diet as well.

The Serious Eats Guide to Whole Grains

An interesting guide. Try to buy from a relatively local sourcer.

Props for the drop... What are your 3 bean salad variants? I'm trying to build my recipes. If I can get 10 solid vegetarian recipes with varying tastes it'll help me fully transition into vegetarian.

My typical day is fruit smoothie for breakfast, quick veggie juice before lunch, for lunch i'll have quinoa and avacado mixed with cilantro, parsley and some vegetables, for dinner I try to have something warm like pasta, soup, veggie tacos, etc. I need to step my soup game up badly so please drop some of those recipes if you can. I try not to f*ck with meat at all but probably twice a week i'll have some kind of lean chicken, lamb, or fish. Ultimately I think the right thing to do is be full vegan for moral reasons. It's a work in progress though.

For workouts I don't even touch weights anymore. Push ups, pull ups, dips, squats, burpees and some jump rope. What exercises you do with the kettlebells?

Im not going to quote because of the length.

I cant remember the soup recipes off he top of my nugget because they involve a few more steps. I can post them when i have sometime this week tho..just quote me as a reminder

The bean salads are fukkin easy man. Essentially i can make 3 salads with the same ingredients.

Choose ur three beans in any variation...i use garbanzo, black, kidney, red, navy...the grocery store should have a generic brand of each for cheap.

Then i take a lemon and squeeze the t*ts off it onto the mixture of beans in a bowl. Maybe two or three capfulls of red wine vinegar, a capful of olive oil, salt pepper...goya spice packages "saizon" they say on them. I add chopped up bell peppers as well...red or green dont matter. Cucumbers or zucchini whatever u prefer. Take a bit or parsley...and ur good to roll...put on the lod of tupperware and shake all around. Btw ur gonna need a strainer to wash those fukkers off cuz they grimey straight outta the can

Then ill do a green bean salad. Cook em up...garlic, salt pepper you know. I love them shyts so i eatem cold

Lastly i make quinoa salad withh grilled veggies and beans...mix it all together and ur straight. Really simple shyt my man...
