as ridiculous as dipset was theres a difference in the rap coming out right now which is basically equivalent to hair metal. dipset was not hair metal levels of corny.

that era was more lyrical and the production wasnt as cheesy/monotonous sounding

listen to a stack bundles verse then go listen to a young thug verse and say the same thing you just said
Production being cheesy is just a subjective assessment. The production of now is easily better than the production of 2002-2006 or so to me.

Dipset was as lowbrow and mindlessly tacky as anyone. Their subject matter rarely deviated from from crack selling, street life, aggressive bragadocio about sex, money, murder, etc. and they represented and embodied bufoonery. Just because their lyrics may have been a little more intricate in terms of rhyme structure and wit doesn't make them any less shallow and ridiculous than this other shyt. They're in the same vein.

Just say they were the music of your youth and you liked them.

negligible? its not just dipset either it was the entire era. rap is a lot more crude sounding now musically and its content a lot more homogenous theres no variety.

No, but I have sat through Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole albums from the last couple of years that are pretty good.

I don't see your point. For every Young Thug, I can point a Young Joc or Gorilla Zoe or whoever else equally garbage artist from 8 years ago.

the difference is the gorilla zoe and yong jocs of the world have taken over rap in this era in the form of young thugs and rich homie quans and etc. the j coles and kendrick lamars have been pushed more out to the fringe of the culture. they have a more dated sound to me. their sound is not really where rap is right now.

What are you talking about? That is the opposite of the truth. Young Joc was a smash hit. All that mindless nonsense was dominating the charts in the mid-00's.

Kendrick went platinum and is considered the best rapper out now so how is he being pushed to the fringe of the culture? He wouldn't have even gotten a deal 10 years ago. J. Cole is popular too. Big K.R.I.T. is mainstream. If anything, you're seeing a bit of a return to people wanting more substance now. Drake is god awful to me and I don't care much for Wale either, but they are better than most of the shyt from the mid-00's.

Just say you prefer the music of your teenager years. Most people do.

You've got to be white to realize how destructive rap music is(specifically to the black community) and to stop fukkn with it? Rap is the devils music and it's influence is only negative. Anyone who isn't blind knows that rap music is playing a significant role in the fukked up state that us blacks are in. I really hope that you are not over the age of 25 thinking like you do

i dont see it that way but you might be right in regards to the drakes and so forth. whats big right now that i am seeing is more in the vein of migos, future, young thug etc. the kendricks and drakes is a wider audience (ie white people, asians) which is really a different culture entirely

i remember being young and being the dude who had to have the kay slay, big mike, dj drama mixtapes as soon as they leaked. Downloading mixtapes albums left and right, chilling in the sohh soulseek room leeching off kaodiks 40gb of rap at 500kbs back in teh day :heh:.

FIlling my mind with filth, thankfully I stopped listening to rap like 8 years ago. Yes I know there is a segment of rap that is enriching and bla bla but the music for teh most part is just horrible and decaying. I'm happy its barely selling at the moment and hope it dies off or becomes a fringe section of music.

I'll continue to bump my jazz and old school reggae
