No. It's because that music fukking sucks. You can't get a party rock'n with Company Flow or even Mos Def. Ever notice how almost no women liked Backpacker music back then? underground hip-hop was almost 95% male (beta male at that).

The South Had far superior production quality, rappers with stand-out personalities, and fun culture. People that call music ignorant miss the whole point. It's fun. It's fun to listen too and it's fun to get all amped' up.

Nobody gives a flying fukk about what Waka Flocka or some other dude is saying. Their care about the energy and fun that Waka Flocka brings to the music.

Maybe people don't want to hear some "message", and maybe they don't want to be depressed about the world on their free time. Did you ever once think about that?
there were backpacker gems back then. even in production. there was just more money to be made off the ignorant music. from artists and producers who signed shytty deals. the music industry would just rather sign ppl who have no idea what they're signing. and once they put millions in the campaign the ppl will buy it.

if you take your lil wayne for example. he was a nobody within cashmoney. the rest wouldn't wanna resign cause the numbers werent lookin right. they went ahead and resign wayne cause he agreed to get literally fukked in the ass and oversaturated the market with the bullsh1t. they got a sucka like bangladesh and the likes to make beats for free. after a while the public gives in.

most of these niccas ain't gangsters and dont "push drugs like that" but in the studio you'd think they're tony montana. doing it because that's what "sells records".

anyway i dont want to bore you with other details because there isnt enough space to break this shyt all down. i could give a fuq what is called hiphop today. and anyone who hypnotizes themselves with this garbage.

Why can't rap music be something use as an escape from life

Work hard all week. On the weekend I go out and party to rap music.
it definitely can breh, it just needs to be more diverse and certainly less toxic for my taste.
my generation will die off and you won't hear anymore complaints, just be sure that folks like me are wrong and you are not letting the music and your kids minds go to the bushes

I spent nearly 20 years in the hood, and I never once in my life heard people from the hood play backpacker music. I never it heard blasting out someone's house. I never heard someone playing it in their cars. If I saw some hood types in a Boxed out 1989 chevy/ Buick/ 1993 impala SS, I knew was one thing I would never hear out of their cars and that was Wu-tang, Boom bap or Backpacker rap.

People in the hood can't relate to that type of music.

Let's be real here for a minute. All that Underground music in the late 90's and early 00's, was too fukking white, which means it didn't have soul in its sound. People need to hear "Soul". Mainstream Black music has soul because it's mainly produced by black people. Underground rap, at least in its production values, was dominated by Nerdy white kids (stoupe, necro, rjd2, Alchemist, El-p). I can't even listen to it.

. I would go to Living Legends, Heiro, or MURs concerts and the vast majority of the audience was always white. Then you had those elitists like Anticon and Hip-hop infinity.com......bunch of white dudes that would always clown on Cuban linx or Mobb deep because it was uncivilized. Anything from the south, that wasn't Outkast, was automatically deemed "low-brow" music by the Whites and to the Filipinos and Asians to a large degree too.

All the while, dudes like EL-p were getting all kinds of hype, and he didn't have any real message. He was just making weird music and he was white so he got praised.
.
i gotta say, reading this left me like this :scusthov:

you're extrapolating from cali to the whole country, in cali there is (or was) an underground hip hop circuit that was basically white, but i think that is more of a cali phenomena and the fact that there are few black people in cali anyways

the whiteness is not as extreme in the east coast

all that just depends on location.
the east coast doesn't fuq with south music like that. a real east coast party will play your mobb deep and wutang.today the southern rap dominates and there are some places which the young cats dont even know who wutang members are.

there shouldn't be no such thing as black or white music just like in sports. the problem with black music is we don't hold the corporations accountable.

What do you keep talking about early 00's backpacker indie rap for like that's the end all-be all of non ignorant/ratchet hip-hop? Most people refer to the golden age and the early 90's (non-gangsta rap) when they get on these screeds lamenting the decline of hip-hop...not Atmosphere, Swollen Members, Dilated Peoples, corny ass Anticon and all that shyt.

i understand your argument but you cant compare dipset to whats out right now though. theres an order of magnitude difference between rappers like jay z and nas to young thug and rich homie quan. dipset made that "fun" music youre talking about and werent in any way as ridiculous and flat out tacky as whats out right now. even gangster rap from the 90's which had no conscious aspect had an element of grittyness and realness and always conveyed something compelling. theres nothing compelling about 2 chainz. its literally just retarded. the turn up worldstar hip hop culture just sucks i dont know how else to say it

Dipset was as ridiculous and tacky as anything ever in rap. Horrible example.

that era was more lyrical and the production wasnt as cheesy/monotonous sounding

listen to a stack bundles verse then go listen to a young thug verse and say the same thing you just said

Dipset was ridiculous and gangsta rap was subversively conscious, for a while anyway

I can tell u rap's problems right now in a few bulletpoints

- No competition
- Lot of biting
- No internal or external support for NY rap
- Too many fukking rappers
- No "governing bodies" to filter between the good and the bad
- No reverence or love for the history and continuity of the artform/culture

Its just a bunch of zero effort attention whoring.... I would say maybe 5-10% of rappers actually care about what they are doing
