and yeah, everyone has different styles and strengths. I rarely banter or play with people. Esp. strangers. My boys or close people, sure. It's like small talk to me. I feel like an idiot doing it. but for some, it's a whole basis of interaction, which is cool.

Of course you always want to leave room in the convo for someone to talk. Ask questions. Give them the space to respond. it's not a monologe. it's mutual self disclosure. It's the basis for relationships of all kinds.

To me, telling someone to not talk about themselves and listen to relentless barrage from someone for an hour sounds like a good idea on paper, but try doing that in real life.

in business, you may have to do that, if it's some C Suite type that has you pinned down, but in personal relationships?

This isn't realistic, in my experience. Outside of paying for sex, you are talking at least a few hours, minimum. Now, if alcohol is involved, the amount of time doesn't change, but the rate at which time passes does.

probably explains a lot, that I am sober and don't drink. I don't have the patience or tolerance that alcohol gives you for those interactions.

Speaking from my experience, this is very wrong. You can definitely smash in under a few hrs without an intriguing conversation.

I do (not a lot though). I’m trying to find women with the same interests, and that’s where the hard part is. For instance, I’m really interested in Bleach right now, and I’m looking for someone to watch the new season with. I know exactly two girls that watch bleach. One is very fat and the other is related to me.

Similar situation with 3D modeling, it’s hard to find people IRL to talk to it about. I’m taking a bunch of IT courses and that’s kind of helped me find more people with at least some interest in modeling and animating and stuff like that, which was why I jumped at the chance to ask out my classmate.

Online sort of makes the search easier. In real life I go from struggling to find someone that wants to play MMOs with me and help me with Blender to, with a couple of clicks, finally finding a Guild Wars 2 partner and getting retopology tips.

Talking to women from other countries is awesome. I get an expansive travels guide, some cool history and culture facts, and depending on the country, a free language tutor. This girl from Canada I used to talk to gave me a cool rundown on St John’s and Montreal.
