I think that everyone's entitled to a private side of their life. And seeing the visible proof has to be painful, but there's also maybe, you are seeing someone's decisions and thought processes in hindsight, and because you never knew about it, it's shocking.

People often seek out what they lack, but aren't always in touch with what that is, like they couldn't name it. What this person is probably seeking was stability. Those other guys couldn't giver her that, but he could, yet her feelings were different from the other guys, probably for that reason.
