If he said "I'd like to keep talking to explore this friendship and see if there's anything more to it" I think that's fine. Shows intent but leaves things open for her.

No woman wants to feel like an easy lay or whore, even if they may be one. The whole dating process is what is done to let her kmow you want to be more than friends.
You might be able to salvage things by being transparent and approaching her IN PERSON, NOT TEXT and say "Hey I apologize for being overly aggressive with you. I just find you very attractive. If we were to take things slower would you like to go out on another date? ... A makeup date? " .... Be playful and jokey about it.... and actually don't be so over eager to smash..... let it cook and develop and come to you....
