It feels good that someone else read that book, and was interested enough to check it out. Appreciate that.

The book has some issues, the author can be pretty annoying and self righteous herself. But, this kinda highlights to me the "soft" flaws in Facebook, that come from the leadership and the founders, and other books focus more on the "hard" flaws (by design) like the algorthrim, the like button, the News Feed, the way it encourages identity and extreme view points. This looks at like who Zuck is as a man.

On texting vs calling:

The thing for me is I am someone who almost always is just inviting someone out when I call or text. I don't say good morning, I don't say how have you been? or send memes or cute bullshyt. I am either leading with dinner/invite or sex. I don't send feeler texts like "hey". or WYD. I just go right for it. So, for me, calls are way more effective. We can have a 30 second convo,

"Hey, are you free next Thursday at 6:00"?

"No, I have plans"

"ok cool, I'll talk to you another time, have fun at the baseball game"

With text, you may wait for an hour. Wait for a day. For some bland, overthought message deferring your invite, which doesn't make anyone feel good. Or even someone accepts the invite a day later. In real terms, I have something next Thursday, I have like maybe 5 solid -enough invites, women from 30-48, I have to choose which one, and then each one after that. I might go 0/5 and then I'll move to the next ones, or roll solo. But, that process will be very inefficient, because of texting. And then, you have the who will actually show up, which is another story.

What's interesting is that while I 100% agree calls are a fading social norm, rapidly fading social norm, a lot of women are always on the phone, but it seems like hyper hyper selective. I see women all day around my neighborhood and work, they are usually locked in with headphones, and on Face Time, walking a dog, or going to the gym.

They aren't like casual quick convos, like I described above, or like a 5 minute convo, quick catch up it's like they intentionally call a close friend, a boyfriend, so they aren't interacting with anyone on the street. But they usually aren't important or urgent, they are like rambling long conversations.

I think voice notes replaced phone calls in the sense of it is the middle ground of hearing voice and tone thus its personable yet easy to digesf as you may be in the middle of something
